New Key/Decal System for Moosehead Park (i.e. Boat Ramp) – May 19, 2008

As discussed in detail at this past annual meeting, we will be changing the boat ramp key/padlock and implementing a boat trailer decal system May 19, 2008.

Boat Launch Key Change:
Because of the increasing number of trespassers on Lake James and the key/padlock not being changed in “several years” it has been decided that it’s time to change the boat launch padlock/keys. We have spent considerable time investigating the right security system so that the padlock should not have to be changed again. After discussing our needs with various locksmiths around the state, as well as exploring the Internet, we have selected a high security system. The system has a unique key that cannot be reproduced or duplicated, with the padlock being pick and drill resistant as well.

Boat Trailer Decals:
As addressed in newsletters and the Annual meeting, 75% of the boats stopped by the Sheriff’s Dept. and Lake James Marine Patrol for various violations are either guests of the Association members or unauthorized boaters/trespassers. In a better effort to monitor guests and trespassers, we are restricting Moosehead parking (vehicles and trailers) to Association members only (i.e. guests will be able to launch vessels but will not be able to leave their trailers at Moosehead Park). As such any trailer parked at Moosehead without a decal will be towed from the Park at the owner’s expense. This decal action will properly identify who is legally parked at Moosehead and also ensure that Association member’s vehicles and trailers do not get towed. The decals are waterproof and have an extended life of three to four years - Note we have selected this time frame as owners sell/move and we don’t want decals lasting forever.

Boat Launch Key and Decal Procurement Details:
As the LJPOA does not have sufficient money to fund this action, all Association members that require a boat launch key and decals, will be able to purchase a key and up to 3 decals at a cost of $10.00 per owner (each additional decal is $1.00 each) with a lost or replacement fee of $50.00. Commercial (Harvey’s, Spicer’s and etc) keys will be issued at a fee of $50.00 with a replacement fee of $250.00. If any commercial operator misuses the key, it will be forfeited. Only one key/decal package will be issued per owner regardless of the number of lots owned. If multiple lots are owed and any are sold, the purchaser of the lot should contact the Association Board to purchase a key/decal package. Also, its highly encouraged that if and when you sell your property, that you pass on your key to the new owner as they will be charged the replacement fee of $50.00.

As addressed earlier all owners are entitled to receive a new key packet (one key and up to 3 decals). The key/decal package will be issued starting Saturday April 5th and every Saturday thru May 10th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the pole barn by the dam. Please bring your trailer/watercraft registrations as no decals will be issued without proper watercraft registrations and signature. Also note we will be recording your trailer license plate number for future reference.

Payments will be accepted via check or cash (no credit cards) from Lake James owners who are not delinquent in their dues payment.

Lake James Memorial/Honorarium Project

Celebrating life, honoring loved ones and memorializing those with whom we have shared much is the foundation of the Lake James Memorial/Honorarium Project. The project offers an opportunity for you to remember those who have gone on, to honor those with whom we have shared something special, and to express gratitude to those from whom we have received much.

As a resident, family member or guest you can select an item from the LJPOA Board Approved item list. Your selected item will bear a personalize plaque or a message to honor your beloved family member or friend. Items have been carefully selected for the durability of the item, the items appearance, as well as the items ability to improve and nurture the natural beauty of our Lake James. For example these items will include, garden plaques, stepping stones, decorative benches, address plaques and “great thought rocks”. Additional items will include message centers that will be placed at Moosehead and Hazelwood Parks, picnic tables and park benches. Some selected items will be available for placement on your property while other items have been selected for the enhancement of our communal Lake James Parks.

Pets are part of many of our families and the loss of a beloved and cherished pet is extremely difficult. Memorializing your pet, honoring them for providing unconditional love and companionship with the selection of an item inscribed with a fitting tribute can help nurture Lake James and serve as a reminder to you of their faithfulness.

Our Lake James has been the focal point of lake living at it’s best for more than 45 years. Most if not all of you have enjoyed a summer evening boat ride at sunset, taught your children and grandchildren to fish, awed at the site of a spring fawn striding curiously behind her mother. You have shared laughter and stories around a campfire, long walks with family and friends and morning coffee on the deck. Birthdays, anniversaries, retirement, weddings, graduations and other joys of life have been celebrated at or on Lake James. Sadly enduring the passing of those we love and cherish has also been part of life here in our northern Michigan community. Honor those memories and those people and pets with a purchase of one of the approved items. A portion of that purchase will be contributed to the Lake James Property Owners Park Fund. Your purchase will assist in the necessary maintenance and improvement of our parks and at the same time your purchase will Memorialize or Honor a beloved family member, friend or cherished pet.

There are two categories of items for purchase. You may select from:

Category (A) offers a selection of items that will PLACED IN OUR PARKS. These items are GREEN, they are made from 100% recycled plastic and are durable, long lasting, require no maintenance, and will not crack or splinter. The items will bear a plaque with a personal inscription, honoring the person/person’s of your choice. Please note that some of these items bear an inscription as part of the item.

Category (B) offers a selection of items to be placed on YOUR Lake James property or the property of the RECIPIENT. These items bear an inscription of your choice that is incorporated into the item.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• All proceeds from the sale of these items will go to the Lake James Park Fund. The funds will be used to maintain and enhance our parks.
• All items must be paid for in full by cash or check prior to ordering.
• Items will be ordered quarterly. (January, April, July, October)
• Items will be available for placement and or pickup in approximately 4-6 weeks after ordering.
