2005 ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
7:00 TO 7:30 PM
SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2005
HOUGHTON LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER
Opening Remarks:
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. Al Walker, President introduced all the Board
members including those that were departing - Stan Watkins, Emmett Salisbury and Gary Laniewicz
were thanked for their years of work on the Board. A review of the Fish Fund Raffle and door
prize process was done. Al thanked Barb Watkins for her many years of hard work selling Lake
James Logo clothing.
Administrative Items and Voting:
Minutes from the 2004 meeting were reviewed. Motion to approve Hank Knoll and 2nd. by
Stan Watkins.
The financial report was presented by Al Walker in place of Bob Mowers. Motion to approve
Chuck Diebel and 2nd. by Gary Varco.
Al introduced the new Board candidates: Don Bleisch, Jerry Hoover, Tim Hughes and
Jim Preczewski. Al stated that we have more votes via the ballots/proxies then association
members present tonight so the Board proposes that the voting stand as is and that no nominations
from the floor be taken. Motion to approve Ted Nielson and 2nd. by Fred Mengel.
Director Reports:
Boating Safety Regulations were reviewed by Al Walker and guest Bob Boyle from the Sheriff’s
Office fielded questions on the Rules and Regulations. Al Walker presented a proposed Land Use
Practice paper which would help reduce weeds in the lake. Ray Van Goethem from Aquatic Nuisance
Plant Control addressed the weed control program and how the milfoil has increased from 11 acres
to over 47 acres in one year’s time and that it should be addressed. Considerable discussion took
place with a show of hands of those present stating that the Board should spray for milfoil this
fall and seek upgrades to the dues and or special assessment to cover the costs.
Dam Report:
Stan Watkins report that dam gates will be replaced in the fall pending water level of the lake.
Report on Parks:
Stan Watkins reported for Gary Laniewicz some issues had occurred with mowing of the parks, but
that has now been corrected.
Report on Fish Program:
Gary Varco reported that a fish survey will be conducted in September to determine how the fish
are doing, count by size and species, and recommendations on stocking. Comments from Past
President Roger Van Omen- who thanked the homeowners for their past and continued support of the
Board.
Minutes have been recorded and saved to CD and are available on request.
Motion for Adjournment was made by Fred Mengel and 2nd. by Hank Knoll.
