Old Business

Rodger Shutter will still try to contact several insurance companies within our local community seeking bids to replace our current liability insurance carrier. To date, no resolution has been reached. Gary Knoll will help Rodger on this ongoing project. Rocco questioned whether an insurance claim was filed with the insurance company with regards to the police report he filed concerning the missing buoy in Lake James I and the destroyed rocket swing. Rodger could not answer the question and assured Rocco he would look into it and double check with Larry Bittner.

Rodger reported that Chosen Electric and Total Landscaping are now in compliance with the LJPOA property restrictions and all legal proceedings have been dropped. Extreme Landscaping refuses to comply and further legal action will be taken.

The positioning of the buoys was discussed along with the total lack of respect for the rules on our lake regarding speed and no wake policies. The buoys are placed where they are for everyone's safety. It is not just the responsibility of the Marine patrol to see that all rules are followed with regards to speed and no wake but every owner on the lake. As suggested by the Deputy Sheriff at the annual meeting, one just needs to jot down the MC number to file a complaint. Marty Baumgartner has volunteered to contact the DNR for the latest news on this topic

Management Reports:

Dam Report:
Water is low due to lack of rain. All boards have been in place for majority of the summer months.

Fish Report:
Gary reported that he is looking into what fish to plant. He has received good reports on bass and pike. No report on walleye. He is still checking with the DNR on completing some type of fish survey. He would like to deposit 2,000 walleye (depending on cost) this October. A "catch and release" contest for our youth is a possibility for next July during our 4th of July celebrations.

Weeds Report:
Rocco reported that Savin Lake Management has completed their job for this year. They will be back in June for their inspection before spraying begins. Rocco reported that he has received quite a few calls from property owners complaining of more weeds in front of their property. He said this is due to the low water level of the lake. This should all take care of itself as our water rises. Rocco also expressed a concern about the number of leach fields being replaced with regards to eventual pollution on the south side of the lake. He will attend the Township meeting, held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Township Hall to inquire about the Sewer Authority.

Parks Report:
In Don's absence, Rodger reported that the step into the water at the Hazelwood Park has been sealed with a sand mix. The playscape at Matchwood has been stained as well as the playscape on Moosehead. Twenty tables at various parks have been sealed or stained. "No wake" buoys are out as well as the swim marker. The volleyball net is down. There is new sand at Ridgewood Park and the two picnic tables were prepared and sealed by two of our residents.

Events Report:
Jane stated that twelve women attended our first brunch which was held on Wednesday, September 14th at Shaker's Restaurant. The next luncheon for all women of Lake James will take place at the Riviera Restaurant on Thursday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. It was suggested that at some time these luncheons be held on a Saturday to accommodate the 'downstate' women.

Jane also suggested that our Fourth of July hot dog roast after our annual parade become a Pig Roast Festival for next year. More information to follow.

Outstanding Dues
Dues for the current year are in the process of being collected now. Collection process will continue until October 31st.

New Business

Rodger reported that the latest test results by the Michigan Watershed concluded that we have good bugs in the south branch of the Denton River or that area north of East Shadow Lake Road. It was noted, though, that geese droppings are very toxic to small dogs and could be lethal

Lisa Manzella provided a copy to Jane Tomaszewski of Shelby Township's Nuisance Geese resolution. It was noted that we will need DNR permission to go any further in our pursuit to reduce the goose population. This will be pursued in the future.

  • With no further business, a motion was made by Dorothy Yakes to adjourn the meeting.
  • Motion second by Gary Knoll
  • Board Motion Vote: I's All Nays - 0 -

Meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.

Next scheduled meeting will be on Saturday, October 22nd at 9:30 a.m.in Larry's garage, second floor.
