Dick Pastula from the Houghton Lake Management Board was a guest speaker to discuss the various methods of weed management that has/is being done on Houghton Lake including their research on the use of weevils. After his presentation, he answered questions from several board members.

Call to Order
Larry Bittner, President, called LJPOA to order at 9:55 AM. The meeting took place at the Pole Barn. Minutes of the meetings from November 2009 and March 2010 were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report:
Dorothy Yakes presented the Treasurer's report for the periods from October 31, 2009 through March 31, 2010. Treasurer's report was approved and accepted.

Checks to be appoved:
Dorothy presented the checks that have been written from December 2009 through April 2010. Checks were approved as presented.

Presidents Report:
Larry has not heard from the Principal of Houghton Lake High on his request for help in plantings and computer assistance.

A recommendation was made that Larry be reimbursed for legal fees he incurred while conducting his duties as President of the Lake Association. A motion was made and seconded to reimburse Larry. Motion passed.

Lake James Property Owners Associations records are now being handled in house with Rodger managing the data.

Vice-President Report:
Rodger reported that there are 49 lots and 35 members that are delinquent in their dues. Liens have been placed on the appropriate property.

Dam Management:
Pat reported that the gates have been closed, but he checks them daily to see if the boards need to be removed or put in place.

Dam inspection was done and it was recommended that the lining in the tube be done in 5 years if not sooner. He will follow up with more information at future meetings.

Pat to check on the Emergency Lake Form.

Several trees over the dam will be cut during park clean-up day at the recommendation of the dam inspector.

Weed Management:
Rocco reported that grants were available from $10,000 through $75,000 for milfoil control. He was to check whether or not our association would qualify for any of these grants.

Discussed the use of weevils in Shadow Lake and that he has a name of a company in Ohio, if we want to use weevils. He will follow up with more information. as he acquires it. Currently we are using Renovate 12-D-4.

Parks:
Jim reported that Ed Jewell and Don Adams would cut and remove debris from Hazelwood Park. A motion was made, seconded and approved to allow them to proceed.

Park clean up will be May 8, 2010. Meet at the boat ramp at 9:00 a.m. Jim will place the time and date on the signs.

Discussion of Adopt An Island to be discussed at the next meeting.

Frank Yakes, Jim and Larry will pick a date to fix the picnic tables. Frank to get prices on materials.

There was some discussion as to acquire an additional playscape. Linwood Park has been designated as the most ideal location so that a playscape would be located on both sides of the lake. Larry to follow up with prices and report back at the next meeting.

Events:
Jane reported that after the park clean up, a picnic for all the workers will include hamburgers and hot dogs.

Boat Parade to be held on July 3rd with staging beginning at 11:00. The picnic at the pole barn will be from 12:30 until 2:00. Brian's Small Engines will again sponsor the picnic.

Jane requested that participants pre-register @ jkrantzie@aol.com or call her at 989-366-0975. Signs will reflect this information.

Logo Contest will be continued and after the parade information regarding the contest will be placed on signs

Fish:
Gary Knoll presented information on building fish cribs and spawning beds to improve the quality of the fish in the lake. A motion was made and approved that Gary proceed with getting the necessary information and permits.
