Old Business:
Parks Management:
In preparation of the LJPOA Winter Picnic to be held at the barn, it was suggested that door mats be laid over
the cement approach to the barn. This area tends to get very icy creating a severe slip/fall hazard to those on
premises. Reviewing our options, 2 – 3’ X 6’ mats could be purchased at a cost of $18/each versus $70 rental charge
from Sohns Janitorial Supply.
- Motion made by Rodger Shutter to purchase the door mats versus renting from Sohns Janitorial Service.
- Motion second by Larry Bittner
- Board Motion Vote: I”s All Nay’s - 0 –
The LJPOA Winter Picnic will be held regardless of weather. Some of the plans include:
- Bonfire at barn during picnic. Rodger Shutter will supply the wood
- No gifts to kids this year.
- 9:30 AM set-up at the barn. Picnic from Noon – 3:00PM
Larry Bittner presented pictures from Dan Nelson of signage to be purchased for LJPOA.
The signs were reviewed by the Board in addition to the mounting diagram done by Frank Yakes for purchase and
installation. If purchased, the upkeep of the signs will be managed by Jim Preczewski and Rodger Shutter.
The total cost of the signs will be:
- 3 Sandwich Board Signs @ $598.88
- Signage installation posts and hardware @ approx. $130.00 (estimate provided by Frank Yakes)
- Total cost – signs, posts and installation hardware @ $728.88
- Motion made by Dorothy Yakes to purchase the sandwich board signs and authorize purchase of posts and other installation hardware totalling $728.88.
- Motion second by Jane Tomaszewski
- Board Motion Vote: I”s All Nay’s - 0 –
Picnic tables for the parks available from Denton Township (used and in need of repair) will be picked up in the
spring and brought to the barn for repair. When repaired, they will be placed in numerous parks around Lake James.
Upon discussion by the Board, it was decided that a new chain and lock will be installed on the bridge that connects
to the park. This is being done to keep motorized vehicles (snowmobiles and 4-Wheelers) off the bridge in the winter.
In the past, much damage has been done to the bridge from unintended use by motorized vehicles.
- Board Motion Vote: I”s All Nay’s - 0 –
Fish Management:
In Gary Varco’s absence, Jim Preczewski advised that the fall fish planting did occur.
He accompanied Imlay City Fish Farm during the planting.
Aquatic Plant Management:
Dan Nelson reported via email that the lake water will be tested in early spring. At that time, we will
determine next treatment options, etc. Also, Dorothy Yakes and Larry Bittner will research the need for an early
DEQ Permit filing as done in the past for Shadow Lake. If necessary, the appropriate action will be taken to secure.
Lake Management:
No report.
Dam Management:
In Ken Holders absence, Larry Bittner advised that a dam inspection is needed/required in 2009.
Ken and Larry will investigate next steps and determine the process and date.
Other Old Business:
Jim Van Vonderen will have Tom Hayes update the LJPOA website to put a notice up regarding the Winter Picnic.
Additionally, upon receipt of a current copy of the LJPOA property restrictions and bylaws from Larry Bittner, Jim
will have Tom Hayes post these documents to our website also.
All LJPOA Logo wear and items are now handled by Janie Bittner Money for new items will come from the Fish Fund
along with all profits/proceeds.
The Board discussed the rental of a chipper by LJPOA during our spring clean up day. It was decided to table and pass on this idea due to liability issues associated with the use. Additionally, there are not enough volunteers to oversee the use and operation of the machine.
A vote was taken on whether to rent the chipper:
- Board Vote: I”s - 1 Nay’s - 5
The annual LJPOA dues are due by the end of November, 2008. An updated list of PO’s that have paid dues effective
December 1, 2008 will be reviewed. We will NOT be extending the due/delinquent date.
New Business:
It has been brought to the LJPOA Board that Chosen Electric is operating a business from a residence on Lake James.
This is in direct violation of the LJPOA property restrictions/bylaws. Larry Bittner will address the issue directly
after having discussion with the LJPOA attorney.
Other property restriction violations were discussed:
- John Bates – temporary structure on premises
- Mr. St. John – temporary structure on premises
Larry Bittner will write each PO a letter to officially advise that the structures are in violation of the LJPOA
property restrictions and must be removed.
New ORV Off Road maps are now available. When a copy is received, we will post to the LJPOA website if
there are not any copyright issues. Get map
The next LJPOA Board meeting is scheduled for March 21, 2009. This meeting will be at Larry Bittner’s home.
- Motion made by Rodger Shutter to adjourn the meeting @ 1:07PM
- Motion second by Jane Tomaszewski
